Maintenance and Lifestyle Changes

by WILLIAM PARONISH on 09/21/11

Hello everyone! I hope that everyone is doing very well on their programs, or maintaining after the weight has been lost.  I am continuing to do well on the program, right now I am almost in the middle of my 4th round.  I have noticed that my loss has slowed, but a lot of that has to do with the fact that I'm approaching my goal weight, so those last pounds that have been there for years are being pretty finicky!  Many of you, myself included, have been concerned when it comes to maintenance after the program.  The biggest concern after the initial Phase of the hCG program is going out on your own after being on a very regimented 500 calorie diet for 23 or 43 days.  I've found that my first three weeks after the program glide by pretty easily.  I focus on the foods that I am allowed to eat such as eggs, low fat dairy, nuts, more fruits, veggies, and proteins!  The problems seem to occur when I start to incorporate any carbohydrates after the end of the 3 week maintenance.  Over the course of the last year, I have started to realize how very sensitive I am to carbs and sweets.  I very easily slip into bad habits once I've let even the slightest bit of complex carbohydrates into my system...I start to form an addictive personality with carbs, which I'm sure that many of you can identify with!  I truly thought that summer would be a very easy time of year given all of the fresh produce, but I will be the first to say that summer got the best of me.  Between weddings, baby showers, vacations...it's very easy to start making excuses like "oh it's just one cookie" or "one pina colada won't hurt right?" But these things really do start to snowball into one big problem.  Another thing that I can say as a woman in my late 20's...it is very easy to do "healthy versions" of fast foods, or eat out at restaurants with friends.  I have never cooked a lot...but I recently made a conscious decision that I am going to start cooking most nights, except for an occasional night out.  In the past I have justified picking up salads when I'm in a hurry, or grabbing things on the go, but what we really need to do as human beings is educate ourselves, and our families on what healthy at home cooking is.  I've been doing a lot of research on healthy carbs, and recipes that are easy enough for a novice cook such as myself!  The last few weeks I have really enjoyed cooking, and I plan on continuing to do so throughout my maintaintence and beyond...When we cook at home and are educated about the proper ingredients, and healthier options or substitutions, the lifestyle that the hCG program is trying to coax us into begins to take place.  This program is not about losing weight quickly then going back to eating whatever you want, it's about learning to nourish ourselves through what we put into our bodies, and carrying that on through the rest of our lives.  I have done a total revision of my kitchen--I cleaned it up and rearranged so that I'm more comfortable with cooking and can have more fun with it, I've thrown out everything that has hydrogenated oils (trans fats), high amounts of sugar and carbohydrates.  I'm making plans for new healthy lifestyle that will consist of baking and cooking with whole grains, oats, fruits, vegetables, fresh ingredients, all natural and organic products that don't have added sugars or starches. I've also started to research recipes and chefs who focus on healthful eating so that when I'm on my maintenance phase...I don't feel so LOST!  It's a scary thing going out there on your own after a program like this, but the important thing is doing it the right way...

Some things that I have found that may help some of you out...I've done a lot of reading on Rocco DiSpirito and his outlook on cooking.  He does have a cookbook out right now that I definitely plan on purchasing after looking at some of the recipes.  He has a very healthy approach on tweaking a few ingredients to make something that otherwise would be fattening, very healthy!

Another website  that I found very interesting was this blog called Family Fresh Cooking by a woman named Maria, who focuses on cooking and baking healthy meals for her family...lots of fun recipes on there!

I own several South Beach Cookbooks that are for Quick and Easy meals, also focusing on low carb eating.

hCG Hormone vs.Homeopathic hCG

"Homeopathic hCG Found With ZERO hCG"  by Jeff Russel

"hCG Hormone vs. Homeopathic hCG" by www.hcgweightlossfacts.com

This is a topic that Doc and myself found interesting, as there has recently been a spike in hCG being sold over the internet.  One huge danger, amongst many, that comes with ordering something over the internet such as hCG, is that you can sometimes get far more than what you bargained for.  Yes, you may pay less in the short term, but how is one to know the long term effects of something that may or may not be hCG on their health, when they are not being monitored throughout the process by a licensed physician?  And is it worth the possible medical complications or even death?

Here are some of the medical concerns that would most likely prevent a physician from prescribing hCG for weight loss:

- If you experience allergic reactions to other substrates
- a thyroid or adrenal gland disorder
- an ovarian cyst
- cancer or a tumor of the breast, ovary, uterus, prostate, hypothalamus, or
  pituitary gland
- undiagnosed uterine bleeding
- heart disease
- kidney disease
- epilepsy
- migraines
- asthma
- breast feeding

Again, this is why you should NEVER EVER buy hCG off an internet site and do the program without physician supervision. As with any medical weight loss program, you must be supervised by a trained weight loss physician.
